Week Four---September 6th-10th

Hi Home Scholar!

Ready for a busy week? We got a bit off track last week with the threat from the hurricane and having to spend time getting prepared "just in case," but thankfully, Earl decided to stay out to sea, and we can get back to "business as usual" this week.

We finished the Time4Writing review last week, but you are not finished with the assignments in the program yet. You have two weeks left of our subscription, so you will need to make sure that you complete as much as you possibly can each day. Please see me BEFORE you submit any work. Since the assignments occassionally take a while and you have been automatically logged out and lost your work before, I suggest that you should cut and paste the directions into MS Word, complete the assignment there, run spell-check, then call me to preview it before transfering it over to the Time4Writing site.

America's Math Tutor review is due Wednesday, so I will need you to think about what you liked and did not like with the program. Do your last lesson today, then see me to share your thoughts. Finish up any unit you are on during the week, then see me once you are done. I would like you to work through a placement test for Teaching Textbooks to see if you need Math 7 or Pre-Algebra.

I added a button for The Outdoor Hour. I would like you to see what the weekly challenge is and try to do it. I also added a button for Harmony Art Mom's weekly art challenge. If you can complete that, we can post it on our site and add it to her slideshow.

I gave you your new Bible Study and I would like you to spend at least a half-hour a day on Bible. See how much of a lesson that gets you through so you will develop an idea of whether each lesson is a two or three day process.

For Science, you will do one lesson in the Thinking Skills book per week. Every other day you will work through the Creation Science study.

Your books to read this week will be the biography on Teddy Roosevelt (read aloud to the kids) and whichever NF book I give you later.

Please do two lessons of handwriting this week, and on two other days practice typing (see sidebar for button). I will be giving you two language lessons this week.

For history, please watch the previously viewed two history lessons with the kids, and one new one by yourself (or with them).

So that gives you: math, writing, handwriting, typing, science, thinking skills, Bible, history, reading, art, nature study, and language.

For fun we will watch the old Clash of the Titans on Netflix, and then the new one, and you will write a compare/contrast paragraph next week.

I think that is all. You will be busy, but it's not so much if you plan well and work diligently.

Love you,

Mom

  1. Hi! We have joined in the Harmony Art Mom's slideshows a few times. My kids always enjoy it. I have thought about participating in the weekly outdoor hour challenge - thanks for the reminder about it!
