We were really busy this week (what with Labor Day holiday and the threat of the hurricane and all) and I had lots of migraines, so I did not get a post up for you, but I wanted to thank you for all of your willing help each and every day. You are awesome! You did just fine this week and kept up with your work well. Thank you for your dedicated efforts.

Week Two---August 23rd-27th
Hi Homescholar!
We had a busy weekend, and a fun one. I hope you aren't too tired to have a good school week, too. lol.
I noticed you didn't make any comments, so I will assume there were no problems you needed help with. We seem to have figured out the writing course, finally, so I will expect you to do as many assignments from it as you can each day. That means, if there is a quiz or other immediately graded assignment, do it AND the next one. If something needs grading before you can go on, you may stop. The review date is the 3rd of September.
We will try to get ink for the printer so we can print up the math worksheets by the end of this week. Until then, since the problems are so simple, I want you to copy each problem, and then solve it, on your own paper. Give this to me each afternoon before you go do your evening chores. Also, don't forget to maintain your flash cards by adding terms and definitions as you go.
Last week we started our reading program with you reading Adam and His Kin. I am considering that "Historical Fiction." This week I am giving you a book about the history of passenger trains in America. It looks very interesting, and I thought it might tie in with our recent trip. I am adding a weekly biography or autobiography to your weekly requirements. You may choose one of the biographies you checked out off of the bookmobile. All the ones you chose were beneath your reading level, but since they have good information, I allowed it. I would like you to read it aloud to the Three Amigos. It must be read before Friday, as must the train book for you to have your usual weekend privileges (think Beta Testing...)
We also added this week one of the Linwood Thompson videos. My plan is for you to watch it once and to do one per week. The littler ones can watch it a second time later in the week to get the full impact. Please tell your dad about the video at some point and discuss it with him.
I gave you the Science Thinking Skills book. For now, completing two in a week is fine. Tuesday and Thursday might be good days to target doing that. We will add your actual science program in a week or two, and adjust expectations as needed.
You received your planner this morning. I hope you will really stick to filling it out, so we can keep up with all of the good books you are reading and activities you are doing. Please work diligently at maintaining it. What a load off my shoulders that would be if I did not have to stay on you about this. Thank you.
In that planner is the New Testament reading schedule we discussed. Stick to it and cross each off as you get it read, okay?
Also, don't forget to work on your "Weekly Work" throughout the week so it doesn't catch up with you on Friday and you wind up losing privileges and gaining weekend homework.

Just a Reminder
Have you been doing your Bible everyday, Homescholar? I haven't given you your new Bible study yet, but you should be reading out of your "Through the Bible in a Year" book every day on your own for about fifteen minutes (at least). Reading some out of Proverbs, whichever one corresponds with the date, is a good idea, too. Pick one out that makes sense to you, or one you think you should be mindful of, and ponder it during the day as you work and play. I was just wondering if you are taking care of doing that on your own...I don't want to have to bug you about things, now that you are in 7th grade. I will give you your new Bible study to start on Monday, so getting back in the swing of things this week is a good idea.
Don't forget to read that book, Adam and His Kin, too...before you read another "fun" book or play more Lego Universe, okay?

Week One---Welcome Back!
This week we have to start you on English/Writing and Preparing for Algebra as part of our TOS Homeschool Review Crew process. We are actually two weeks behind, so I need you to make sure that you focus and really be diligent about completing the assignments. Our first review (on the writing curriculum) is due September 3rd, so you will need to get as far along in that as possible. The company granted us an extension, though, so even though the review will be completed on that date, you will be expected to finish the course.
I am trying to set up this blog so we can keep track of our school work and as a means to easily organize the links you will need for the courses you will be taking this year. Seventh grade is very important as it helps to set you up for high school. Depending on the course you decide your studies will take, whether it is a vocational business or graduate degree, you will need to develop foucs, diligence, organization, and perseverance. The time to make sure all those qualities are lined up is now, before the REALLY hard course work of HS begins. It takes about three weeks to develop a habit, so when you see something you need to work on, focus on it for about a month, and after that it will become easier.
For today, I would like you to look over both programs. Your log in for the writing is tbolt7 with the usual password. The math link in the sidebar should allow you to directly access the math course you need to be working on. I'd like you to plan to leave a comment in the comments section of this post on a daily basis. You will need to set up a profile for that...use the name home scholar and use your usual password. If you need to enter a website or email, you have your own and can use one of them. Once you have familiarized yourself with the programs, please complete your first lesson in each, then do one every day thereafter.
This is just the beginning. We will start a bit at a time and add things as we go to make it easier on us and to help us work out the kinks.
To recap:
1. From now on, do one lesson of math (see below for exact instructions) and one lesson of writing daily.
2. Each day when you comlete your work for the day, leave a comment about what you did and any difficulties you had, help you need, or questions to be answered.

PS. This week for math: Today, watch the first video on sets and do a multiplication speed drill 3X. Tomorrow, watch the second sets video and go to the printed exercises section for Pre-Algebra. Download the first set of exercises (on sets...lol) and do page four after reading the review. Thursday, I'd like you to do page five and a 3X speed drill. Use the videos to review anything you don't understand. Friday, I'd like you to see me for a quick quiz.
